One of the most common questions I get is "how much money do you need for a trip to Thailand?". The answer depends entirely on your style — but the good news is that Thailand is famous for excellent value. Here's a full breakdown to help you plan right.
Flights
A flight to Thailand varies within a wide range depending on the season and how early you book. Holidays and peak season (November–February) are pricier; booking early and being flexible with dates saves a lot.
Accommodation — For Every Budget
There's everything: cheap hostels and guesthouses, comfortable boutique hotels, and luxury resorts and villas. You can sleep very well even on a mid-range budget. For groups, a shared villa can be cheaper per person than a hotel — full details in our accommodation guide.
Food — From Cheap to Fine Dining
Excellent street food costs very little (a hot dish for a few dozen baht), good restaurants are still affordable, and fine dining is available too. It's easy to eat well on any budget.
Transport
Internal transport is relatively cheap: inter-island ferries, low-cost domestic flights, and Grab/taxis in the cities. Renting a scooter is cheap but requires caution and a proper licence.
Activities and Experiences
Cruises, club entry, attractions and spas — this is where spending varies most. VIP club entry or a private cruise cost more but are a real upgrade to the experience. Plan ahead for what matters to you.
Estimated Daily Budget
- Budget: street food, hostels and public transport
- Mid-range: comfortable hotels, restaurants and activities
- Luxury: resorts/villas, private cruises and beach clubs
