Phuket has a beach for every kind of traveller — from the buzzing and crowded to hidden, quiet coves. After years on the island, here's my complete guide to the best beaches, so you know exactly where to go for the vibe you want.
Patong — The Buzzing Heart
The most central and lively beach, right next to the Bangla Road nightlife. Ideal if you want action, beach clubs and proximity to everything. Water sports and restaurants by day, parties by night.
Kata & Karon — Family-Friendly and Easy
Wider, calmer beaches with pleasant water and a big range of restaurants and hotels. A great choice for families and couples who want relative quiet without giving up convenience. See also our Thailand for families guide.
Nai Harn, Kata Noi & Freedom — Quiet Beauty
Among the most beautiful beaches on the island, with clear water and a relaxed atmosphere. Freedom Beach is more hidden (reached by boat or a steep path) — and worth every moment.
Kamala & Bang Tao — Beach Club Capital
Home to some of the most upscale beach clubs (Catch, Xana), and we also have villas in the area. A perfect blend of a beautiful beach, sunset parties and premium service.
Beyond the Beach — The Surrounding Islands
Some of the most beautiful beaches aren't in Phuket at all but a short cruise away — Phi Phi, Coral and Racha. The best way to reach them is by boat; see our boat guide and our boats page.
Tips for the Perfect Beach Day
- In the rainy season (May–October) watch for red flags and currents
- Come for sunset — Phuket's west-coast beaches are famous for it
- Bring water, sunscreen and a hat
