Thailand is so much more than nightlife — it's one of the most diverse countries in the world for travellers. Between the parties and the beaches, it's well worth making time for the attractions that turn a trip into the experience of a lifetime. Here are the must-sees by region, with tips on how to combine everything into one smart route.
The South — Islands, Beaches and Turquoise Water
The south is a tropical paradise. Boat trips to the Phi Phi Islands and Maya Bay (from "The Beach"), James Bond Island in Phang Nga Bay, and snorkelling at Coral and Racha islands are all must-dos. The best way to see them is from the water; see our yacht & boat guide and our boats page. And if you're only after beaches, we have a full Phuket beaches guide.
The North — Temples, Nature and Culture
Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are a completely different side of Thailand: golden temples like Doi Suthep, the stunning White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), huge night markets, and green, cooler nature. Perfect to combine after a few days on the islands.
Elephant Experiences — Responsibly
Visiting an ethical elephant sanctuary (where you watch and feed, no riding) is one of Thailand's most moving experiences. It's very important to choose a place that respects the animals — I'm happy to recommend trustworthy sanctuaries.
Nature and Waterfalls
Waterfalls like Erawan, national parks and hot springs — Thailand is full of easily accessible nature. A great addition for a relaxed day between sea days.
Action and Adrenaline
- Zip-lining through the rainforest
- Kayaking in sea caves and lagoons
- Diving and snorkelling
- ATV and jungle treks
Most activities include hotel pick-up and equipment — especially convenient.
Local Culture
Floating markets, an authentic Muay Thai fight, a Thai cooking class and temple visits all give a real taste of Thailand. Travelling with kids? See our Thailand for families guide.
When and How
The comfortable season is November–April. Most attractions are easy to combine into a route — and I'll happily build you one to match your pace and taste. More ideas on the attractions page.
