The Full Moon Party is one of the most famous parties in the world — tens of thousands of revellers on Haad Rin beach in Koh Phangan, music from every direction, neon, fire and a once-in-a-lifetime atmosphere. But to truly enjoy it, it's worth arriving prepared. Here's my complete guide.
What It Is and When
The party takes place around every full moon on Haad Rin beach. The dates change every month with the moon (and are sometimes shifted for holidays), so check ahead and plan your arrival accordingly. Tell me your dates and I'll update you on the nearest party.
How to Get There and Where to Stay
Reach Koh Phangan by ferry from Koh Samui or the mainland (Surat Thani). Accommodation near Haad Rin fills up weeks ahead for the party date — book early. Staying close is worth its weight in gold for getting back easily at the end of the night. See our accommodation guide for the area.
Safety Tips
- Wear closed shoes — there's a lot of glass on the sand
- Bring a little cash, leave valuables at the hotel
- Be careful with strong "buckets" — drink responsibly
- Stay with your friends and agree a meeting point
- Mind your phone and wallet
Side Parties
Around the Full Moon there are more legendary events — the Half Moon Festival and Jungle Experience in the jungle, and the Waterfall Party. A winning combo for a week of parties. If you love parties, see our parties & festivals page and our Phuket nightlife guide.
Combine It with the Rest
Koh Phangan is close to Koh Samui and Phuket — it's easy to combine the Full Moon with beach days, cruises and parties. I'll happily build you a perfect week.
