- Be especially careful with "buckets" — strong mixed-alcohol drinks served in small pails; take one glass at a time and drink slowly, and if a drink wasn't mixed in front of you, it's best to skip it to avoid anything tampered with by someone you don't know.
- Never get on a motorbike after drinking — motorbike accidents are the most common cause of tourist injuries in Thailand, and the combined effect of alcohol and unfamiliar roads is especially dangerous.
- Police sometimes run random drug checks in the area, including on the roads in and out of the beach — Thailand enforces very strict drug laws, and it's worth knowing that in advance and staying well clear of anything like that.
